Merchant Walk in Berlin-Wedding connects home sharers and small business owners

A few weeks ago, home sharers from Berlin-Wedding came together for a Merchant Walk in their neighborhood to meet the people behind some of their favorite local businesses.

Home sharers recommend small local shops, cafés, and restaurants to their guests and help support local businesses, owned and run by Berliners. Hosts and guests using Airbnb generated an estimated economic impact of around €438 million last year for local businesses in Berlin. “Creativity and small shops and manufacturers make our city special. We benefit from the additional business we gain thanks to Airbnb hosts recommending our store to their guests”, local business owners Mona and David, from Leevenstein, explain.

Home sharers from Berlin-Wedding met:

Mona & David at Leevenstein – Manufacturers of leather goods

For just over seven years, Mona and David have been working in their charming workshop on Lüderitzstrasse 13, where they design, manufacture and personalize leather goods by hand. Both are passionate Airbnb superhosts and share a spare room in the apartment they live in themselves.

Uta at manuFACTORY – Manufacturers of porcelain design and chinaware

Just next door from Mona and David is Uta’s workspace, which has been around since 2010. Uta works from the studio and also gives workshops for those interested in learning to make pottery.

Daniel from Colorblind Patterns – Shop and Atelier

Daniel prints traditional arabic patterns on cotton cloths and accessories. His shop is located on Antwerpener Street in the heart of Berlin-Wedding. “There are less walk-in customers in Wedding than in other neighborhoods” explains Daniel. “People have to discover our shop, or they come by recommendation. Every host who recommends small businesses to their guests supports creatives in Berlin.

Martin at Eschenbräu – Beer garden and Micro-brewery

What started out as just a fun idea during his studies has now turned into Martin’s full time job . Martin is the brewing master at Eschenbräu and gave home sharers a tour around his Braukeller and explained to them the art of brewing beer. You can find the beer garden and the brewery in Triftstrasse 67.

Andrea at Nomad Store & Gallery – Gallery and Concept Store

Andrea runs the Nomad store and gallery in Sprenglerstrasse in Berlin-Wedding, where she exhibits and sells hand-selected goods from local and international artists.
